This article talks about plastic and cosmetic surgery in teenagers. It explains the risks and effects of having plastic surgery at such a young age. Surgeons can perform breast augmentation, liposuction, and nose reshaping for teenagers. Of course, this is really controversial. However, there is a huge amount of teenagers who have these types of surgery. The article says that teenagers are not always aware of the effects of having cosmetic surgery. Also, they often think that you will feel more confident after having this type of surgery, but it is not always the case. Moreover, this article talks about how surgeons chose their patients. Actually, physicians are able to refuse surgeries if they disagree with the reasons of the patient to have surgery. The article uses a lot of statistics to prove its facts. I think it was really interesting learning more on this subject that, in my opinion, is not talked about enough.
Personally, I disagree with people who want to have surgery as a teenager. I think that at this young age you are not informed enough about the risks. You think that it will completely change your appearance and that you will feel better in your body. The problem is that once the surgery is done, it can be really difficult to go back. For example, if you decide to have a nose reshaping surgery and some years later you regret it, you won't necessarily be able to go back and have the same nose you had before surgery. Also, sometimes teenagers are not doing it for the right reasons. If people talk badly about your appearence you will most likely want to change it. However, you should always do surgery for yourself. I think it is concerning that in 2003, 223 000 teenagers have had cosmetic surgeries. It is a massive amount of people. I disagree with having surgery so young, nevertheless, I do not judge people who did it. It is their choice to make and if they are happier with that I am happy for them. I hope you enjoyed reading this article and that you are now more informed about this subject! See you in my next post!

It's really crazy to think that some teenagers are having body image issues and think they need to "fix" them at such a young age! Thank you for shining a light on this subject.
RépondreSupprimerAgreed! Very pertinent subject.
SupprimerI truly agree with you Noémie, such impurities of the flesh should be decided by the body's owner and definitely not by external voices. What's the next step? Babies deciding what they're going to look like before they are even born? What an outrageous thing. Nevertheless, what a great read this was! I am thankful.
RépondreSupprimerHi Noémie! I really like this blog post for a few reasons. I appreciate how you are not judging teenagers who have plastic surgery. You are coming from a concerned point of view, which is very interesting! I agree with all the arguments you presented. I also think celebrities/influencers need to be transparent about whether they have had plastic surgery or not. Great work!
RépondreSupprimerYou make a valid point, Elisabeth! I also agree with you - influencers must be transparent about whether or not they have had plastic surgery.
SupprimerIt is crazy to see so many teenagers resorting to this. At this age, your body isn't even fully develloped yet, you can change so much in so little time. It is sad that these people are so insecure about themselves at a so young age.
RépondreSupprimerYou're right, Mathis. The body can change in the nick of time!
SupprimerOh dear, what a touchy subject to talk about, Noémie. You chose well for this week's blog post! I have to agree with your peers, I appreciate the fact that you tried to see the teenagers' perspective on surgery. Isn't it incredible that at such a young age, many teenagers are ashamed of their body? When I look at my amazing students, I cannot even begin to comprehend; you are all so beautiful to my eyes. I genuinely mean it. But then I remember how I felt as a teenager (and how I am still learning to love my body), the constant bullying, the peer pressure, the media, etc. and I understand why some teenagers resort to such extremes.
RépondreSupprimerThank you for sharing this article. It was a pleasure to read!
Here are a few elements to review:
- Do not forget to add 'and' at the end of an enumeration: Surgeons can perform breast augmentation, liposuction, nose reshaping for teenagers.
- plural (effect): not always aware of the effect of having cosmetic surgery
- I would reformulate this sentence if I were you. I think that the overuse of pronouns make it a bit confusing: Moreover, it talks about how surgeons chose their patients because they are able to refuse surgeries if they disagree with the reasons of the patient to have surgery.
- reformulate: that is not talked about enough (i.e.: scarcely talked about, hardly talked about, etc.)
- move 'in my opinion' to another place in your sentence: I think it was really interesting learning more on this subject that is not talked about enough in my opinion. - [...] on this subject that is, in my opinion, scarcely [....]
- subject-verb agreement (wants): with people who wants to have
- word order (enough informed): you are not enough informed about the risks
- preposition (about) you are not enough informed about the risks
- you might want to vary your vocabulary (huge amount): It is a huge amount of people.
- verb tense (am not judging): I am not judging people who did it
Hi Noémie! I am going to go in another direction and say that I agree with teenage plastic surgery. I know! Shocking! No age is immune to social pressure. Some adults might consider plastic surgery for even worst reasons than a teenager. I truly believe some teenagers know what they want and can make good decisions. We should make sure teenagers are totally aware of every aspects of the situation rather than forbid them do have plastic surgery. I am glad you said you do not judge them however.
