VOCABULARY

This new blog post presents a list of vocabulary commonly used by surgeons or other healthcare workers. These terms are specific to the medical field. I learned most of these medical terms by doing research. Therefore, I'm hoping you will learn some new vocabulary by reading this article! 


1) Cauterize

   French translation: Cautériser  

   Definition: To cauterize something means to destroy tissue using hot or cold, an electrical current, or a chemical that burns or dissolves the tissue.

2) Laparoscopic surgery 

   French translation: Chirurgie laparascopique

   Definition:  Laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen (tummy) and pelvis without having to make large incision in the skin.

3) Amniocentesis

     French translation: Amniocentèse

     Definition:Surgical puncture of the amniotic sac to remove fluids for laboratory analysis.

4) Osteoclasis

     French translation: Ostéoclasie

     Definition: Intentional surgical fracture of a bone to correct a deformity.

5) Appendectomy

     French translation: Appendicectomie 

     Definition: Surgical removal of the vermiform appendix.

6) Paramount

     French translation: primordial 

     Definition: "Very important: of highest rank or importance"

7) Pathology

     French translation: pathologie

     Definition: "The study of diseases and of the changes that they cause"

8) Hysterectomy

     French translation: hystérectomie

     Definition: "Surgical removal of the uterus"

9)Liposuction

     French translation: Liposuccion

     Definition: Cosmetic Surgery where the fat is removed from a certain area

  1. Hi, your vocabulary list is in general very good. Perhaps, you could change the word benign for a word that is more complicated. Also, you could try to lined up what you wrote in the French translation and definition so it would be more esthetic.

    1. Thank you for your comments Noémie. I will definitely adjust my post so it will be more aesthetic. Also, thank you for you recommandation, it is true that the word benign is pretty easy. I could definitely look for a more complicated one.

  2. I love all of your definitions, it is short and clear. The only thing I can see is that we can not click on all of your links. Only the last three links work.
